Audi Philately

This will be the webpage for stamps & other items related to Audi®

The History of Audi is a fascinating one, and I had put together a 64-page exhibit about Audi and the various companies & people that form its history since the early 1900's.

<-- The first car that I ever owned in high school:  a 1973 Audi 100GL.

"Audi", the 4 rings logo, "Auto Union", et al are registered trademarks of Audi AG.

What do you do when you REALLY like your car?  When it becomes more than just transportation from point A to point B?  Find out more about it!

Once I started learning more about the Audi company, I started accumulating collectible items that relate to the company, such as postage stamps & philatelic materials (such as postal stationery, first day covers, postmarks, postage meter strips, etc) and other ephemera (ie: "paper" collectible) items that relate to Audi (and the various companies that currently or in the past related to it).

Audi has quite a fascinating history behind it, involving many different companies over the years, and it was a challenge to find items that could illustrate the story through philatelic and other collectible items. But, I am constantly finding new materials, such as postal cards from China & Hungary, a stock certificate from Argentina and others ..

A partial history of Audi, as seen through stamps follows...

1885:  WANDERER

Wanderer was founded in 1885 and is one of the predecessor companies that became part of Auto Union in the 1930's.

Shown is a 1982 semi-postal stamp from Germany (for use in Berlin), featuring the 1921 Wanderer "Puppchen" car.

1899:  HORCH

August Horch was the founder of the Horch automobile company.

Left:  This is a private (regional) post stamp from "PostModern" in Germany, featuring August Horch and one of his vehicles.

August Horch's  name means "hark" or "listen" in German; the Latin equivalent of which is Audi!)

Horch automobiles were considered luxury cars in the 1930's.

This pair of stamps are from the Pacific island of Tuvalu, and was part of a larger series of stamps from the mid-1980's featuring various automobiles.
